Today is a good day. A heck of a one, but a good day. I do not want to bore you with personal problems, I recently got into trouble for that. so I am keeping my distance from that topic. I do want to share some good news: I sold three note cards sets a couple days ago (actually last night, I forgot that I am no longer a self-proclaim night owl no more) What is it about sharing personal problems that makes people run the other way, especially if you are not hitting them up with any type of financial request? I will let you pounder that thought.
I have two cards on sale at ArtFire. The first one is called I Love You, and it is a set of 3 cards. The materials I used was blank card, colored chipboard, ink (just for distressing) and pattered paper. On two of the cards I used Bazzill ribbon. My explanation of of my cards is from last year's you tube video.
My next card is a flower Thank you card. I used the Cricut on this one, and the cut is from the Storybook Cartridge. In case you have it, the cut is on page 46, and I cut two flowers, stacking one on top of the other to give that 3-D effect. Then I took patterned paper, and cut a strip of it. For the lettering, I used the Dymo label maker and placed on the black strip of cardstock. I hope you enjoy it.

New cards, three different looks.
OK, I have finally made some new cards. They are not for sell, However, If you want me to make you some, just ask, and I will. All of the cards a similar background (kraft cardstock cut the long way (4 1/4" w x 5 1/2" L), Hot Pink matted, with a sheer ribbon ( Bazzil Basics ribbon Cream Sheer Dot-5/8"). The only difference is how I approached the three cards. One was made for a beginner, With a image printed from a printer, and with die-cuts.
This card is for those of you who want to make a quick card, but do not have the time to make anything from the tools you have, like the Cricut, Cuttlebug, or Silhouette cutting machine. These embellishments come from Soft Spoken, a Me and My big ideas collection. I also like to call it, "Use what you have in your stash" collection. I have so much stuff that I bought and saved from when I worked at Archiver's until I forgot about it. All I did for this card was added ribbon to the card, the embellishments already had adhesive on the back (using pop dots). Yes I could have made the embellishments. If you want to make this kind of yourself, all you need is a thin peice of fabric to cover the flower, a pressed flower, and a sewing machine. Place the fabric (which is a gauze type fabric) on top of the flower. Oh I forgot about the backing, which is a simple peice of cardstock. stich around the edge. This is a beginner's card.
The next card, is a typical digi-stamp card. using the same concept of a simple card. Again, I put the ribbon on the side. This time, I placed a piece of vellum to soften the ribbon. I did foux stitching on the side with a white watercolor pencil. I matted the image and saying with the same color cardstock as the blank card which is Kraft cardstock. I colored the image with Copic makers. the colors I used were: E-25 (Caribe Cocoa) and E-29 (Burnt Umber) for the basket. For the colored eggs, I used G-82 ( Spring dim Green), B-93 (Light Crockery Blue), R-83 (Rose Mist), and YR-18 (Sanguine). For the grass I used G-17 (Forest Green). I could have used more colors to make shading better, but I did not print on the right paper. As noted, shading is the key to coloring with Copic markers. I printed out "Happy Easter" on my printer. OK, I forgot one more thing, My flower. I took a flower by Reflections, a Michael's Arts and Crafts brand, and blinged it up with Glimmer Mist. The color is Moonlight. I actually had two flowers, and the second flower was supposed to be for the third card, but it met its maker by way of a Longaberger mug. I sat something on top of the mug temporary with the flower on top, and the flower fell in on top of my tea (eww!), so I had to throw out both the flower and the tea. (Now you did not think I was going to drink the tea after that incident, eww, gross). That was how the first card I showed you was born. I needed to do some quick thinking, LOL. so what did we learn, class? Never scrapbook with tea around. come on, people, we have all done it, and will probably do it again, LOL.
The last card shows what you can do with die cuts. Now you have seen my die cuts. I make them mostly with the Cricut cutting system. I wanted to show you that there are other ways to get a die cut from other systems. The butterflies, I wish I can claim them, but I cannot. These are by Jenni Bowlin. I like their style, because they are one of the few companies that have scrapbooking products look like office supplies. I place them on the ribbon. I like movement in my cards, so I took a copic marker ( this time-RV-25 (Dog rose Flower) ), and drew where the butterflies have flown from. Next, I have some tulips cut from an older Sizzix machine (big heavy red one, can't miss it). I was in a swap when I had it (sold it on Ebay as part of my, "need a Cricut, Want a cricut campaign"). Anyway, I glue down the white one, and pop dotted the pink one just slightly off the white tulip for a 3-d effect. Added birds flying off in a distance, and wrote the word, Spring at the bottom.

Added another shop-ArtFire and Etsy Team Columbus
I am taking a gamble. I am going wild on this new venture. I already have an Etsy shop, and an E-Willow shop. Now I am part of an Etsy team in Columbus, and I set up shop on ArtFire. Hopefully I will have something to show you soon. I just wanted to let you know what I am up to.

Winner of the Blog Hop and My other love
Hello-
This is an early morning post, and I do mean early. I wanted to make sure that everyone who has had a chance to look, and hop around to all the different blogs to the Get Cricky 50 state blog hop. I want to say thank you to the 167 comments I received about my mini album. I had fun making it, and if as promised, I will make an annoucement in a moment about the winner of this album, and some other goodies coming with it. This was my first blog hop, and I would love to participate again soon, whoever ask me. who knows, I may start my own blog hop and ask some people to participate.

First of all, I entered all names into an excel spreadsheet in the order that I received the comments just to be fair, I went by the number on the spreadsheet line, if you have work spreadsheets before, excluding the number 1. Then I used Random.org to be my picker. It has been known to be a true selector. OK, enough of the stalling!!! The winner is BeeBeebabs. Blog Hop- Get Cricky

Everyone knows about the Ohio State Buckeyes. They have been national champions seven times. What some people do not know about the state of Ohio is the world's biggest basket, located in the city of Newark, Ohio. The basket is actually an office building, and the home office of The Longaberger Company. Longaberger creates baskets, pottery, wrought iron, candles, and accessories ,and sells the products through any number of 70,000 home consultants throughout the United States. I am proud to be one those consultants. The building is shaped like the medium market basket, which was the founder, Dave Longaberger's favorite basket. He started the company in 1973, and today, the company is lead by his daughter, Tami Longaberger. More on Longaberger at a later time.
I just created this mini album for the hop, and you can be the winner of this album, as well as some other goodies when you leave a comment or follow this blog. Now a little bit about prize...
The cover is from Your Story, which is a binding machine. There is also a bigger version of this machine, which not only binds, but laminates as well. This machine I used only binds the book, and the neat thing about it, is you can decorate the cover. In this case, I cut out a heart from the Cricut cartridge, Storybook. It was cut at 3". Inside the cover, I have a envelope which was also cut out from the Cricut, this time, it is the cartridge, Wild Cards. A tag will come with it. The first page is matted with striped red patterned paper, and a solid dark red paper. the flower comes from a retired K and Co collection, the Hannah Collection. The next page is decorated the same.
The next two pages are pocket pages, and they have one tag each for the page, and a photo mat. The two tags have something encouraging to say, because I believe in encouraging people. The next four pages are winter type pages, which are simply decorated in blues, and snow flakes. I have also some Addison Flowers which are retired K and Co collection. Finally the last two pages are a simple photo pages, with Hannah flowers on the corners. I am so happy to make this for the visitor who wins it.

Valentine's cards
Hello, this is a short post to give you the heads up on my cards. I made a new set of 3 cute little cards, but they are not on Etsy. they are on E-Willow, the child I do not talk much about. (yes I call them my children since I do not have a real child.)
Here she is
I saw a Kristina Werner video on You tube, and I reinterpreted it ( that is industry speak for I did not have all the materials)
It is a simple card that calls for:
1 card blank ( measures 3"x6")-kraft paper
A heart stamp ( Kristina uses the Martha Stewart set of hearts, I used an unknown form stamp with 3 hearts with ribbon interwoven between them)
Red ink (I think she used colorblox brand ink, while I used Stampin Up! Real Red)
Marker (she uses her signature white pen, while I used a plain black ink Sharpie marker)
String ( I used CTMH's Waxy Flax which is discontinued)
Simple cut your cardstock 3"x6" and fold in half to create the card blank. Next, stamp your hearts on about a third down from the bottom. Next, handwrite "happy Valentine's day", "To my Sweetie", anything that you can think of. If you do not like you handwriting, I recommend the computer, or if you want that handwritten look, find someone who can write well. (Preferably someone who is not getting the card). Place this above the stamped image. Last, take your string, and wrap it around the edge about 2 or 3 times, trying to crisscross along the way. There you have it. Super simple. On the inside, write a personal note. For my E-willow page, you can click on the banner to the right.
Well that is it for now. I just wanted to show you this card I made in 10 mins. You can even change it up. St. Patrick's Day is coming up, and even though I am not Irish, that does not I am not Irish in spirit, because I always need a reason to make a card. For that holiday, stamp on Shamrocks or a Pot of Gold, with the words, "Lucky you, Me Boy (Girl)". This size makes a perfect gift tags on a birthday present or dare I say it, Christmas present. (I know, the 2010 christmas season is not cold enough, and I am already talking about Christmas 2011). How about a little Easter Card in the basket. Graduation? The possibilities are endless with this small, but powerful card.

Etsy I {heart} you
It is not what it seems. It just means I have two subjects.
Etsy:
I am finally adding to my store. these are some cards that I made in the past two years, including the cards in the last post. I also made so little note cards (4) with hearts on them. At the moment, I have sort of a love/hate relationship with them. I love the fact that I can list my creations, but at the same time, because of the sales that I have been getting, they are too few and far between. Most of it is my fault. I have so many irons in the fire, until I did not have the time to dedicate to the real reason why I got into this business of making stuff and selling them in the first place. Maybe I am scared, nieve to the actual dedication? Who knows but me and God. So that is why I pulled out some of my stuff and looked at them. I did this back in November, and I can say that I did a heck of a banged up good job of making cards, and trusting my inner self to the process.
So what has changed? Dealing with the actual business end of this business. Now I see why so many people do not go into business for themselves. If we did, there would not be any problems of finding work in this country. People would find their passion, stick to it, and there would be no problem. The government is good in telling people what they need in order to succeed in small or home based business, and they are very good in telling us that it takes lots of money to run one. Yes, it does take a lot of money, but it also takes dedication, research into the idea, product, or service you want to sell. I did not just say that I wanted to make cards, and scrapbook pages, nor did I just say that i wanted to sell Longaberger products either. I thought long and hard about both businesses. I thought about the time it would take to be a success, and other things such as marketing to creditors, other people to invest into the business, and to who my consumers were going to be. Growing a business is fun, but is it also hard work, and you need everyone from family members to creditors and suppliers to work with you.
One of the things that you also need if you are a spiritual person is God. Some people call Him a higher power, but I not going say higher power, I am going to call God for who He is, and who I believe in. If you a personal relationship with Jesus, He is needed as well. If it wasn't for the prayers that I said, the prayers I asked for (and still asking for), and reading of the scriptures, I would have quit two or three months after I started with Longaberger, and I would never have started MDN Creates as well. I would have been like everyone else who has ever lost a job, or quit one.
So those of you who are on the fence about starting anything, rather it is a new part in your life or a new relationship, you may be asking me how did I get by. First and foremost, I am a very sensitive African American Female, who will cry on a dime. Yes I said it, Cry on a dime. I am a worry Wart, and a very impatient one at that. In the past 2 1/2 to 3 years, I have starting changing for the better. 20 years ago, I could not have started these two companies, but God had a plan, but in order for this plan to even start, He had to change me. I wanted things now. Oh there were things that I was willing to wait for, but they happening less and less. I started scrapbooking, which is one of the things that calms me, and I can sit hours on end just making something. I finally was able to finish school, and I have a B.S degree in marketing in 2003. Even though I am a mostly quiet person, I love talking to people, and that is one of the reasons why I started selling Longaberger (the other is the products).
Of course, you can see most of this in my bio off to the right, but I just wanted to let you know, that I can start two businesses 9 years apart, you can too, and we can beat this recession thing, and create new jobs. I now have more patience than I did a few years ago, because having a business does that to you, and I thank God for that. Now if He can help me find me a good man, who does not mind me having a couple of business, I will be happy. I don't online date.
Ok, so what I was talking about before I explained another side of why I got into the businesses that I have? OK, skip it. On to my card:
I {heart} You...
Isn't she a little cutie? The note card is lovely named: I {heart} you. I made four of them, and they are going up on either Etsy or E-Willow for sale. I {heart} is a simple card to make, and recipe calls for 1 6x3 card blank, folded in half to make it 3x3. I used a 12 x12 sheet of American Crafts paper, and cut it down to the size needed for the card. Next, I cut with my paper trimmer two sheets of Bazzill bling (unknown discontinued colors, but in the red/pink family) one 2” square in the first solid color, and one 1 3/4 “square of the second color. The third and final square, take a piece of patterned paper, and cut at 1 ½”, and adhere them together in the center of the card. You can leave it right there if you want, or take it a step further like I did, and either freehand, punch, or die cut out a heart (I used the Cricut Cartridge George and Basic Shapes for my heart), and cut two heart (I cut one at 1 ¼” and the other at 1”) and layer them on top of each other. Use a form adhesive square to raise the hearts for a 3-d effect. Take a sharpie marker (or any thin line marker) and hand write I Heart you, drawing a little heart in between “I” and the word “you”. If you do not feel comfortable with your writing, you can always do it by computer. Every once in a while I always find nothing says I love you to your sweetie like a hand written card. Make a bunch, and leave some “love notes” around the house. You do not have to wait until Valentine’s day to leave little notes. You can also make them for any other holiday or occasion, just change up the color and design.

I love the fact that I can list my creations, but at the same time, because of the sales that I have been getting, they are too few and far between. Most of it is my fault. I have so many irons in the fire, until I did not have the time to dedicate to the real reason why I got into this business of making stuff and selling them in the first place. Maybe I am scared, nieve to the actual dedication? Who knows but me and God. So that is why I pulled out some of my stuff and looked at them. I did this back in November, and I can say that I did a heck of a banged up good job of making cards, and trusting my inner self to the process.
So what has changed? Dealing with the actual business end of this business. Now I see why so many people do not go into business for themselves. If we did, there would not be any problems of finding work in this country. People would find their passion, stick to it, and there would be no problem. The government is good in telling people what they need in order to succeed in small or home based business, and they are very good in telling us that it takes lots of money to run one. Yes, it does take a lot of money, but it also takes dedication, research into the idea, product, or service you want to sell. I did not just say that I wanted to make cards, and scrapbook pages, nor did I just say that i wanted to sell Longaberger products either. I thought long and hard about both businesses. I thought about the time it would take to be a success, and other things such as marketing to creditors, other people to invest into the business, and to who my consumers were going to be. Growing a business is fun, but is it also hard work, and you need everyone from family members to creditors and suppliers to work with you.
One of the things that you also need if you are a spiritual person is God. Some people call Him a higher power, but I not going say higher power, I am going to call God for who He is, and who I believe in. If you a personal relationship with Jesus, He is needed as well. If it wasn't for the prayers that I said, the prayers I asked for (and still asking for), and reading of the scriptures, I would have quit two or three months after I started with Longaberger, and I would never have started MDN Creates as well. I would have been like everyone else who has ever lost a job, or quit one.
So those of you who are on the fence about starting anything, rather it is a new part in your life or a new relationship, you may be asking me how did I get by. First and foremost, I am a very sensitive African American Female, who will cry on a dime. Yes I said it, Cry on a dime. I am a worry Wart, and a very impatient one at that. In the past 2 1/2 to 3 years, I have starting changing for the better. 20 years ago, I could not have started these two companies, but God had a plan, but in order for this plan to even start, He had to change me. I wanted things now. Oh there were things that I was willing to wait for, but they happening less and less. I started scrapbooking, which is one of the things that calms me, and I can sit hours on end just making something. I finally was able to finish school, and I have a B.S degree in marketing in 2003. Even though I am a mostly quiet person, I love talking to people, and that is one of the reasons why I started selling Longaberger (the other is the products).
Of course, you can see most of this in my bio off to the right, but I just wanted to let you know, that I can start two businesses 9 years apart, you can too, and we can beat this recession thing, and create new jobs. I now have more patience than I did a few years ago, because having a business does that to you, and I thank God for that. Now if He can help me find me a good man, who does not mind me having a couple of business, I will be happy. I don't online date.
